the Three Stages For
Breaking down those Prison Walls
Stage 1 - "Before We Fall"
by Doctor AAron Kerr and pastor J A Cormier
For Daily Hope Prison Ministries to succeed and accomplish its goals, it needs to do four things: Keep people from going to prison (out of the justice system), help when people are in prison, keep them from going back to prison, and always treating them with respect and dignity.
We will remember to use God as our guide when dealing with all 3 stages of helping someone to stay out of the Justice System
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; and even when he is old, he will not depart from it.
DHPM believes the lack of equity and equality are the main challenges of millions of adolescents around the world. This directly effects the opportunities they have for positive youth development.
We all need to play our part to make sure our families and communities actually support adults, and adolescent’s development in a safe and healthy way. All parenting, services, counselling, and programs must be done with consistency and patience.
“Let’s promise to never allow one troubled person to walk alone.”
Here is the program we will be working with:
The Bible speaks decisively to this issue. Romans 13:1-2 says: “Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. … The only time we are to disobey a law is if it is morally wrong — not in our opinion — but in God’s sight.
The “Before They Fall” program will be using the Bible, the Passport Series Book 12 (Breaking Down Those Prison Walls), and the novel “Shipwreck” to support their services to help people stay out of prison.
Using the Deterrence Theory is only one way to regulate criminal behavior. Research shows that people comply for reasons that have nothing to do with the fear of punishment; they have to do with values, fair procedures and how people connect with each other.
Here are “Four Thigs About Deterrence” related to crime.
1) The certainty of being caught is a vastly more powerful deterrent than the punishment.
2) Sending an individual convicted of a petty or minor crime isn’t a very effective way to deter crime.
3) Increasing the severity of punishment does little to deter crime.
4) Using the deterrent that the ultimate punishment of execution has not shown to have an effect on homicide rates.
